Body War was met with acclaim, with many critics praising the bands lyrics, their unique blend of genres, and the use of a banjo, which is seldom seen in hardcore punk circles.
In a positive review of the record, Matt Wilkinson of NME stated: "It’s completely thrilling, and while nothing like it musically, ‘Body War’ is surely the most New York ‘sounding’ album since The Strokes appeared full of inner-city rage some 15 years ago with ‘Is This It’. Show Me The Body are a band worth believing in."[9] Music Reviewer Anthony Fantano described it as "one of the most riotous and creative albums of 2016."
In a mixed review of the title track of the album, Quinn Moreland of Pitchfork Media described that it was "four minutes of discordant and grating noise."[10]
