The company started in 2000, based in Parktown, Johannesburg, but also had a presence in Cape Town, KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape.
It was privately owned. A substantial shareholding was held by the Kgolo Trust, an empowered community development organisation.
The company specialised in the development and long-term management of information-rich websites, covering a wide range of difficult topics, from economics to health to tourism to municipal finances to arts and entertainment.
Clients
Big Media used to publish websites for Brand South Africa, a former project of the President's Office, but now a part of the Department of Communications. It also once published the official websites of a few municipalities, such as Johannesburg, Buffalo City (East London) and Mogale City (West Rand).
It also developed web strategies and online content for the South African Revenue Service, the Constitutional Court, South African Institute of International Affairs, Telkom Yellow Pages and Airports Company South Africa.
The company was also once involved in the launch of new publications or the redesign of existing ones, for Media24, ThisDay, Johnnic (now Avusa), Mail & Guardian and Caxton.
