Azhar Hussain (academic)

Azhar Hussain (Urdu: اظہر حسین) is a Pakistani academic who is the Director Alumni Affairs and Additional Director Student Affairs of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur.[1][2] Earlier he served as deputy director student affairs in the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. Hussain was one of the youngest Ph.D. of Pakistan, completing his postgraduate degree at the age of 25 years and 10 months.[3][4][5]

Early life and education

Azhar Hussain did his primary and matriculation education at a government school of district Bahawalpur. Azhar did F.Sc. from Government Sadiq Egerton College Bahawalpur. He completed B.Sc. Agriculture with Soil Science as a major subject in 2010 from The Islamia University of Bahawalpur. He also spent four months on an academic internship at National Agriculture Research Centre Islamabad. He has completed M.Sc. Soil Science from University of Agriculture Faisalabad. He completed his PhD in soil science from the University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Pakistan and was supervised by soil scientist Muhammad Arshad. During his PhD, he was also the part of President of Soil and Environmental Sciences Students Society.[6]

Career

Hussain works as an assistant professor in the Department of Soil Science, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Pakistan since December 7, 2015. He was assigned the role of deputy director Student Affairs for student societies,[7] from February 2, 2020, to July 6, 2021, and was promoted to Additional Director Student Affairs on July 7, 2021. Hussain was appointed Director of Alumni Affairs on March 23, 2021.[8]

Research

Hussain is an author/co-author of more than 70 publications including books chapters, books, research/review articles in refereed journals. He has completed three research projects as P.I. and as a team member and running two research projects. [9] He is an emerging scientist in the field of Agriculture and Environment and also serves as an associate editor of the soil society of Pakistan.[10]

Awards

Hussain was presented with Agricultural Youth Award on 4 March 2021 by Raja Nasir Ali Khan, Minister of Tourism Sports Culture & Youth Affairs to recognize his achievements as a young scientist who has worked for the Agricultural Research, Farming, Business Development & Policymaking of Pakistan.[11] This award is the initiative of the National Agriculture Youth Commission.[12]
