Ari Schneider

Ari Schneider is a journalist known for his articles about sports, politics, social issues, technology, and other topics.

Education and personal life

Schneider grew up in Rutland, VT.[1] He attended high school at Killington Mountain School, a sports academy, where he trained to be a competitive freestyle skier.

Schneider has a Bachelor's in Political Science from Tufts University and a Master's in Journalism from New York University.[2]

Journalism

As a freelance writer, Schneider has written for major publications including The New York Times, Climbing Magazine, The Washington Post, Slate, and Vogue.[2]

Notably, Schneider covered sport climbing leading up to its Olympic debut at the 2020 Tokyo Games. He has been a contributor at Forbes covering the outdoor industry, and has reported on major news events in Colorado for The Washington Post, including the 2021 Boulder shooting.

Awards

Schneider won the 2020 AIPS Young Reporter award for his story in The New York Times about two Slovene teens testing their friendship in a close competition at the Olympic sport climbing qualifiers.[3]

Schneider's essay "Climbing Alone" won the best essay in the "Thrill" category at the 2019 ROAM Awards.[4] This was the inaugural adventure media contest hosted by Roam Media. Schneider's essay told the story of him attempting a new climb alone in the Cirque of the Towers, Wyoming. The award earned him a column at roammedia.com and a cash prize.

Books

Shaded by Stone

Schneider's 2019 memoir, Shaded by Stone, follows rock climbing adventures in Utah, British Columbia, California and Nevada.[5] Climbing stories are used as a mode to discuss struggles with lows in life.[6][7]
