Early life

Ajinkya Bhasme was born in Yavatmal, Maharashtra to an educated Maharashtrian family. At the age of six, his family relocated to Jalgaon where he completed his schooling from St. Joseph's High School. He had a peculiar affliction towards literature since childhood and began writing at a very early age. With the encouragement of his family, friends and teachers, he pursued writing his first novel Boo in the Well of Dangers at the age of thirteen which was later published by a local publication house based in Nagpur. [1]

He completed his B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. Bhasme was revered with Roll of Honor (Hostel 2), an award given after 12 years for his contribution to the cultural scene of IIT Bombay. He further went onto pursue a diploma in Forensic Psychology to help him get an academic perspective on his books.

Career

After graduating from IIT Bombay, Bhasme joined Dr. Reddy's Laboratories in Hyderabad as a scientist where he worked on API and formulation drugs. It was during this career stint that he realised that scientific research could be applied to literature and story research as well. He began researching for his first novel When the Devil Whispers while also excelling at his job for which he was awarded Chairman's Excellence Award.[2] Later he joined UPL Limited in Mumbai as a senior manager. Currently Bhasme is Vice President of People and Culture Development at Swiss Re.

Publications

When the Devil Whispers ISBN 978-1719808316, his first work is about a group of women kidnapping children and committing a mass murder. The book contrasts the usual crime fiction where the perpetrator are commonly men.[3] The book based on real life events was launched in the presence of Sushant Divgikar, winner of Mr Gay India 2014, Psychologist, Former columnist at DNA, actor and prominent voice of the LGBTQ community in India. The book is broadly inspired by true events of arguably India’s most horrific crime ever committed by a group of women who became the first Indian women sentenced to be hanged to death.

His second work As Death Stared Back ISBN 978-9387131361 is a book about Capgras Delusion - a mental disorder.[4][5][6]

His third novella 7 Hours at Bhata Road ASIN B08BS2HH7G is a social commentary on class differences shown through occult horror. It also elucidates the horrors of society treating people suffering from epilepsy. The book has been chosen as Amazon's bestseller of 2020, and is being made into a full length feature film starring Vatsal Seth and Ishita Dutta. [7] The adaptation will shed light on the subject of class inequality that forms the crux of the book.[8]

Critical reception

His works have received majorly positive reviews from critics and readers alike. Sapna Sarfare discussed his work at Freepress Journal, "While the back and forth in narration can initially be a little unnerving, Ajinkya’s gripping storytelling keeps things going. The book’s first half does feel too unhurried. But once the story hits second gear, you are in for a ride."[9] Shiv Sethi at The Hitvada gave a positive review and wrote, The book fits into the segment of an exquisitely created gothic tale which will give shudders to every reader.[10]
