Personal life
Politowski was born in Sweden.[3] His birth name is Murshi,[1] and he is of Polish and Bangladeshi descent.[3]
Politowski attended Oxford University / Somerville College, receiving an undergraduate degree in 1996.[1] He later obtained a Master of Engineering in Engineering Science in 2000, and his Master of Philosophy in Economics in 2004, both at Oxford.[4][5]
Politowski married fellow producer Nadia Khamlichi. Together, they have one son, born 2012.[1] He "currently splits his time between Los Angeles, Brussels and Stockholm".[4]
Career
Politowski and his partners Nadia Khamlichi (his wife) and Jeremy Burdek founded Motion Investment Group in 2004 in Brussels, Belgium. In 2010, the group rebranded as Umedia (formerly stylized uMedia), with business divisions of "uFund (fundraising), uFilm (production and investment), uDream (distribution) and uFX (visual effects)." In 2011, the Umedia website reported it had staffed 75 employees, co-produced and financed 120 films, raised and invested 156 million euros.[6] Umedia finances production through its Belgian Tax Shelter Fund.[7] The company has 3 operating VFX facilities: in Brussels, Paris and Vancouver.[8]
In 2019, Politowski and Khamlichi co-founded and launched the production company Align Pictures, where he plans to focus on producing fewer films but have more involvement in them. He resigned from his position as co-CEO of the Umedia, leaving Khamlichi to remain as CEO.[9] In 2020, Politowski sold his remaining stake in Umedia.[4] Align is headquartered in Los Angeles, and has greenlighted funds to finance feature films and television.[10] Align also financed animated films Little Nicholas, Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank, and Kensuke's Kingdom.[11][12][13]
Politowski is producing the Hulu original -- Good Luck to You, Leo Grande, starring Academy Award winning British actress Emma Thompson. The film is scheduled to be released on June 17, 2022.[14][15]
