Synopsis

The story revolves around a teenager from a conservative family who struggles to strike a balance between societal expectations and personal desires. According to the popular adage, Achcham (Fear), Madam (Innocence), Naanam (Coyness), Payirppu (Chastity) are the four "ideal" qualities that every good Tamil girl must possess. The movie titled - 'Achcham Madam Naanam Payirppu' (The Myth Of The Good Girl) drives the theme that even if you don't possess these qualities, you're still a good girl as long as you are true to yourself.

Reception

The film opened to mixed reviews. Haricharan Pudipeddi of Hindustan Times wrote the film "is a refreshing adult comedy that doesn’t rely on lame sex jokes – like most adult comedies in Tamil cinema - to talk about a young girl’s sexual exploration. With a highly relatable story and situations that most of us would’ve experienced in our lives, the film works to a large extent, thanks to its lighthearted tone and treatment. The fact that the film presents the idea of losing one’s virginity as just another human desire makes this attempt laudable."[4] Praveen Sudevan of The Hindu said "Films about everyday people usually thrive on layered characters and verisimilitude. This film scores badly on both fronts."[5] Roktim Rajpal of Deccan Heraldgave a rating of 2.5 out on 5 and wrote, "The film has a good concept but the writing could have been better."[6] M Suganth of The Times of India rated the film with 2.5/5 stars, stating the film as an underwhelming drama on female desire.[7] K Janani of India Today gave a rating of 1 out on 5 and wrote, "Achcham Madam Naanam Payirppu has an excellent production design. But, it is a wasted opportunity when it comes to handling the actual issue."[8]
