Aam Aadmi Party, Gujarat

Aam Aadmi Party Gujarat or AAP Gujarat is the Gujarat state wing of Aam Aadmi Party. It has 64 elected members in the ward councils of Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation, Surat Municipal Corporation and other urban and rural local bodies in Gujarat.[2][1] The AAP office is located in Navrangpura, Ahmedabad. AAP had participated in the 2017 Gujarat Legislative Assembly election and 2021 Gujarat local elections.

In January 2021, Arvind Kejriwal announced that AAP would be contesting in 2022 Gujarat Legislative Assembly election.[3] In March 2022 AAP Gujarat president Gopal Italia said that AAP's victory in Punjab gave encouragement to AAP Gujarat workers. Soon after the results were declared, AAP started a party membership drive. Gulab Singh Yadav, Delhi MLA is the incharge of the party for the 2022 Gujarat election.[4]

AAP made its debut in the February 2021 Gujarat local body elections, it contested elections to six municipal corporations, namely Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Bhavnagar and Jamnagar. It found major success in Surat and Rajkot. The overall vote share across the six municipal corporations was 13.28%. [6]

AAP then contested the Gandhinagar municipal elections in October 2021 bagging 21.77% of the votes and won one seat.[7]

Assembly elections

In January 2021, AAP national convener, Arvind Kejriwal announced that AAP would be contesting in six state elections in 2022. The six states were Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, and Punjab.[3] In March 2022, AAP Gujarat president Gopal Italia said that AAP's victory in Punjab gave encouragement to AAP Gujarat members. Soon after the Punjab results were declared, AAP started a party membership drive. Gulab Singh Yadav, Delhi MLA is the incharge of the party for the 2022 Gujarat election.[4] AAP started its election campaign for Gujarat on 2 April with a Padayatra.[2]
