In December 2021 AAP leader and Chief minister candidate, Amit Palekar, organised agitation against the construction of illegal buildings. He sat on a five day hunger strike after which the Goa government ordered the demolition of the structure.[2] Herald Goa reported that his signature campaign received support from more than 30,000 people in Goa.[3][4] Palekar credited the success of the agitation to the support by the local people.[2]
