The tournament was organised by the sport's governing body in Australia; Women's Football Australia (WFA). After the Australian Football League assumed control for women's Australian rules football in the early 2010's, it implemented the AFL Women's (AFLW) league and other associated competitions, such as the AFL Women's Under 18 Championships and the NAB League Girls, and consequently the tournament ceased operations.
