This will be the first time since 2003 that long-time quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will not be on the roster, as he announced his retirement on January 27, 2022.[1] It will also be the first season since 1999 that long-time GM Kevin Colbert will not be the general manager of the Steelers, as he announced on January 28, 2022 that after 22 years with the organization, he would step down following the 2022 NFL Draft.[2]

Pre-draft trades
- Pittsburgh traded their original fourth-round selection to the Miami Dolphins for a 2021 fifth-round selection (defensive lineman Isaiahh Loudermilk).
- Pittsburgh received a fourth-round compensatory selection for the loss of linebacker Bud Dupree the year prior.
- Pittsburgh traded a fifth-round selection to the New York Jets in exchange for linebacker Avery Williamson and a 2022 seventh-round selection.
- Pittsburgh traded a sixth-round selection to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for linebacker Joe Schobert.[3]
- Pittsburgh traded Melvin Ingram to the Kansas City Chiefs for a sixth-round selection.
