Background
This will be the first election to take place after redistricting based on the 2020 United States census. Following the approval of a voter-initiated constitutional amendment in 2018, the responsibility for legislative and congressional reapportionment was transferred from the state legislature to the Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission, a 13-member citizens commission.[2]
In the 2020 Michigan House of Representatives election, the Michigan Republican Party narrowly retained their majority of the chamber.
