The tournament was originally to be held in France from 30 May to 13 June 2021.[1] On 30 April 2021 the tournament was postponed to autumn due to the logistical problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.[2]

On 29 November 2021 the organizers announced on Twitter that the 48th edition would begin six months later.

Ten participating teams were announced in April 2021.[3]

This would have been the first appearance of Australia and India in the Maurice Revello Tournament.
