Background

One term incumbent Andy Schor, a Democrat, started out relatively smoothly during his first two years as Mayor. However, it turned sour very quickly, as when the 2020 George Floyd protests occurred, he started receiving backlash, due to perceived mishandling of issues of racism within his administration. During a Zoom call, he received a lot of angry responses from supporters of Black Lives Matter, all calling for defunding the police, something that he opposes.[1] They also wanted him to resign, something that he has said countless times that he wouldn't do.[2]
