2020–2021 Nepalese protests

The 2020–2021 Nepalese protests was a national uprising and massive protest movement that had been cracked down on since December 2 in Nepal, after a decision by prime minister K. P. Sharma Oli to discuss and take away the government and dissolve Parliament. The mass protests led by tens of thousands of protesters have been taking place in Kathmandu and two other major towns. Growing anti-government discontent has been silenced but police brutality has been stepping up during strikes as well, fearing another massacre like the Tiakpur massacre. On 29 December, after six protests, thousands took to the streets demanding the resignation of Oli and the restoration of the National monarchy.

Civilians protested peacefully throughout Nepal, not just Kathmandu. On 8–10 January 2021, a two-day strike was held nationwide in protest at the government. A mass rally was held on 20–21 January 2021, when thousands took to the streets to protest the dissolution of parliament. Clashes took place between police and protesters.[1][2][3]
