2022 South Ayrshire Council election

Elections to South Ayrshire Council will be held on 5 May 2022 on the same day as the 31 other Scottish local government elections. The election will use the eight wards created following the Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland's 5th Review, with 28 councillors being elected. Each ward elected either 3 or 4 members, using the STV electoral system.[1]

At the last election in 2017, the Conservatives won the most seats but the council was run by a coalition of SNP, Labour and independent councillors.[2]

Background

Composition

There was one change to the composition of the council following the previous election in 2017. Conservative councillor Hugh Hunter was de-selected in the run-up to the 2022 elections and resigned from the party to stand as an independent.[3][4]
