2022 Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council election
The 2022 Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council election will take place on 5 May 2022 to elect members of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council. This is on the same day as other local elections. 17 of the 34 seats will be up for election.[1]
Background
Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council was traditionally a Labour council. The party controlled the council from the first election in 1973 to 2008, when the Conservatives gained the council, before reverting to Labour in 2012.[2] Labour retained control of the council until 2018, when it fell under no overall control, before the Conservatives took control in the 2021 election. In that election, the Conservatives gained 10 seats with 58.2% of the vote, Labour lost 10 seats with 26.3%, and the Green Party made no gains or losses with 13.4% of the vote.
The seats up for election this year were last elected in 2018. In that election, Labour lost 8 seats with 35.9% of the vote, the Conservatives gained 9 seats with 51.1%, and the Green Party lost 1 seat with 9.0%.
