12nd Thüringisches Hussar-Regiment

The 12nd Thüringisches Hussar-Regiment (German: Thüringisches Husaren-Regiment Nr. 12) was a German Hussar regiment active during Napoleonic Wars, German revolutions of 1848–1849, Austro-Prussian War, Franco-Prussian War, and World War I. The regiment was disbanded in 1920.

Actions

On 30 July 1791, 12nd Thüringisches Hussar-Regiment was established.[1] The regiment was deployed in Mühlberg/Elbe by the end of the September 1791.

When Kingdom of Prussia was involved in the Napoleonic Wars, 12nd Thüringisches Hussar-Regiment took part in the wars. It participated in Battle of Jena–Auerstedt. On 8 July 1815, the regiment participated in the invasion of Paris led by Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher.

During the German revolutions of 1848–1849, the regiment participated in suppressing the revolution under 1st Division of II Corps.

During the Austro-Prussian War, the regiment participated in the war as part of 2nd Cavalry Division of First Army. The regiment participated in Battle of Königgrätz and Battle of Blumenau. In Franco-Prussian War, the regiment participated in Battle of Beaumont, and Battle of Sedan.

During the World War I, the regiment was first deployed in Western Front and took action in German invasion of Belgium. In November 1914 it moved to the Eastern Front and took part in the battles in northern Poland. In May 1915 it was in service in Kurland and Lithuania and then came to Romania. By early 1917 was involved in fighting on the Southeast Front. In February 1917 it was transferred back to the western front. After giving up the horses and transforming the regiment into a cavalry rifle battalion, the members of the regiment took part in defensive battles in Flanders until the end of the war after their infantry training.

After the war, the regiment was disbanded in 1920.
