Life

His mother is unknown.[1] According to others, he was son of Bülbül Hatun.[2] He was born in 1476,[3] and was governor of Saruhan and Kastamonu.[4] Mahmud died in 1507 and was buried in Şehzade Mahmud Mosque built by his mother. Some claim he was executed.[5]

Issue

Şehzade Mahmud had five children:

Sons:

  • Şehzade Orhan[6](1494-1512)
  • Şehzade Musa[7](1490-1512)
  • Şehzade Emir[8]
They were all executed by orders of Selim I in 1512.

Daughters:

  • Ayşe Hundî Sultan; born in 1493, married in 1508 to Serulûfeciyân Ferruh Bey, with whom she had daughter Mihrihan Hanim-Sultan. She was still alive in 1556[9]
  • Zeynep Fatma Sultân
