Ölsboda Manor

Ölsboda Manor (Swedish: Ölsboda herrgård) is a manor house and former noble residence at Ölsboda, Degerfors in the Swedish county of Örebro.[1] The manor was built in the 19th century. Ölsboda Manor is Degerfors Municipality's only protected historic building.[2] The property is strongly associated with the Swedish noble family Strokirk.[3]

Architecture

Ölsboda Manor was built in the late 1820s by Jeppe Strokirk and architect Fredrik Blom. The manor house's vestibule was inspired by the Rosendal Palace,[2] and the manor house was completed in 1828.[4]

History

17th century

In the 1660s, an ironwork was established on the Lake Ölen[5] by mayor Anders Sten.

18th century

In 1772, the properties surrounding what is today Ölsboda Manor was bought by Elias Strokirk.[6] He had a manor house built at this location. The house paneling and was painted red. It was not until the 1820s, that construction brok ground for the current manor house.

The quay at Lake Ölen, close to Ölsboda Manor, was built by Russian prisoners of war.[7]

19th century

Jeppe Strokirk inherited the property in 1811 and had a new building built.

In the 1820s, construction broke ground for Ölsboda Manor and the building was completed in 1828.

20th century

In the 1920s, Swedish author Selma Lagerlöf wrote parts of her book The Löwensköld Ring at Ölsboda Manor.[8]

In 1936, Ölsboda Manor was acquired by a descendant of Jeppe Strokirk, Countess Ebba Hamilton, née Mörner.[9]

21st century

In 2002, Ölsboda Manor became Degerfors Municipality's first listed building.[10]

Ölsboda Manor is private property as of today, and is not open to the public.[2]
